Email Just Got Smarter Than You. Adjust Accordingly.

Email marketing used to be predictable. Write a good subject line, segment a list, hit send, watch the clicks roll in.
Then Apple and Gmail walked in like, “Nah.”
Between iOS 15’s privacy updates and Gmail’s spam thresholds, even solid campaigns are getting buried—or worse, not seen at all. Your beautifully written emails? Filtered into the Promotions tab graveyard. Or grouped, summarized, and shoved into an AI-driven hellscape that reads like a receipt, not a relationship.
What’s wild is how many brands are still using open rate as a key metric. That ship sailed the minute Apple decided everyone opens everything (even if they don’t). If you're still segmenting by opens, you're not segmenting. You're guessing.
So what do you do? You tighten your list. Send less, but smarter. Get personal. Use actual text (not images with text). Space out your campaigns so you’re not spamming by accident. And for the love of metrics, stop blasting everyone the same message and hoping for the best.
Email isn’t dead. But your strategy might be.
